Chamber Committees
The Chamber has a number of committees that members are able to be a part of. You can find information regarding each committee below. For more information on a certain committee, please call the Chamber at 814-943-8151.
Attractions/Hotel Roundtable
Attractions Roundtable is a roundtable discussion group of businesses representing area attractions and Blair County lodging properties. The group meets quarterly to discuss issues of common interest or concern, and to determine opportunities for cross-promotion.
Blair County Retail
Blair County Retail brings together local retailers on a bimonthly basis to discuss trends within the retail industry and to make suggestions to The Chamber on how best to assist retailers in maximizing their impact on the county and the region.
Chamber Ambassadors
Chamber Ambassadors help to welcome new members to the Chamber, assist those members in becoming acclimated to all aspects of the organization, and oversee special events such as ribbon-cuttings. The Ambassadors also support efforts associated with member recruitment, retention, and recognition.
Committee of Non-Profit Businesses
Committee of Non-Profit Businesses addresses the challenges and opportunities of non-profit organizations in the county. The committee also maintains subcommittees dealing with advocacy and marketing. The committee undertakes a strong advocacy role on behalf of non-profits and works to educate the community on the impact of those non-profits.
Executive Roundtable
Executive Roundtable is a committee within the Chamber created specifically to develop programming for Chamber members at the CEO level in businesses with at least 100 employees. The Executive Roundtable meetings feature presentations on issues of interest to business or to the Blair County community. Membership to the Executive Roundtable is generally by invitation although interested CEOs may apply.
Farm-City
Farm-City oversees all activities that focus on educating and informing residents on the importance of agriculture in our region.
Golf Classic
The Chamber Golf Classic is planned and executed by this energetic committee of golf enthusiasts who assist in the recruitment of golfers for the annual event. The committee also reviews format changes, determines award criteria, and oversees the execution of the Classic.
Home Garden & Healthy Living Showcase
Home Garden & Healthy Living Showcase is a collaboration with the Chamber and the Blair-Bedford Builders Association, and plans the three-day show that features more than 130 exhibitors. The Home Garden & Healthy Living Showcase Committee has representation from each sponsoring organization.
Leadership Blair County Adult
Leadership Blair County Adult has been in operation since 1994. The program begins each September with an orientation, includes a two-day retreat in October, and features daylong sessions each month with graduation in June. The Leadership Adult Committee assists in the planning of session topics and monitors the progress of the program.
Leadership Blair County Alumni
Leadership Blair County Alumni provides an opportunity for graduates of the LBC program to continue their professional development. The Alumni sponsors educational and community related events.
Leadership Blair County Youth
Leadership Blair County Youth has been in operation since 2004. The committee is responsible for planning the curriculum for the nine-month program, which includes an overnight retreat in July and monthly sessions from September through graduation in May. The committee also oversees the selection process and plans the graduation ceremony.
Public Policy
Public Policy Committee is the advocacy arm of The Chamber and assists the organization in learning about and dealing with issues synonymous with business growth and interaction. The committee appoints subcommittees to deal with issues such as Municipal Cooperation, Right-to-Work, and Pension Reform.
Safety
Safety provides targeted programs marketed to safety directors from throughout the membership and community. Programs are held monthly from September - May.
Sustainable Blair County
Sustainable Blair County is the Chamber's "Green" committee. This committee is comprised of businesses and individuals interested in discussing or advocating on behalf of initiatives that are environmentally prudent.
Transportation
Transportation regularly monitors how issues related to transportation impact the Blair County business community. The committee also drafts policy statements for The Chamber so that the organization speaks with one voice in lobbying efforts.
WE-LEaD
WE-LEaD is the Chamber's program that creates educational and networking events designed for businesswomen. Those events are planned and executed by the WE-LEaD Steering Committee which meets bi-monthly.
Workplace Wellness
Workplace Wellness is a committee comprised of representatives of businesses and health providers. The committee's mission is to help local companies to set up their own wellness programs and to develop creative ways to help those programs to be effective. Young Professionals of Blair County
Young Professionals of Blair County organizes yearlong activities geared toward the development of young professionals in Blair County. Subcommittees focus on community service, education, and networking.
